Five Decades of Wireless Evolution
Mobile technology has transformed our world through five distinct generations, each arriving roughly a decade apart. The first generation launched in the nineteen eighties with analog voice calls that offered poor quality and no security. Second generation networks introduced digital transmission in the nineteen nineties, enabling text messaging and basic encryption. Third generation arrived around two thousand one, bringing mobile internet access for the first time. Fourth generation networks transformed smartphones into powerful connected devices with fast broadband speeds. Fifth generation networks now deliver gigabit speeds, ultra-low latency, and massive device connectivity.
