Naming Data Networks and Slices

The Data Network Name is the 5G equivalent of the LTE APN and identifies the target data network for a PDU session, such as "internet" for general broadband or "ims" for voice services. The S-NSSAI or Single Network Slice Selection Assistance Information identifies a specific network slice through two fields. The Slice Service Type is an eight-bit value with standardized assignments where one means eMBB, two means URLLC, three means mMTC, and four means V2X. The optional Slice Differentiator adds twenty-four bits to distinguish slices that share the same SST within a single operator network.
